Newborn Calf

While driving the back roads of Hadley going from site visit to site visit for my job, I saw a cow, standing alone in the corner of acres and acres of open pasture, far away from all the other cows, give birth to her little brown calf (a girl).  There is nothing more beautiful than seeing a new life begin and the loving attention of a new mama.  This turned out to be a great day.

Licking her clean
Mama needs a quick snack
True love
Nudging her to stand
Trying so hard to stand up

Girls' Night In

With Michael teaching an evening class last night and Anna and I feeling generally ill, we spent a quiet  and lazy night at home - just the girls!  Dinner, which was later described by Anna as "the best dinner ever," consisted of the biggest, heaviest, tightest artichoke I have ever seen, steamed in lemon juice with melted butter to dip, and a big bowl of popcorn, all eaten on our red and white check picnic tablecloth while watching Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady.  It doesn't get any better than that!
